Testing & Inspecting

We all know that electricity can kill but were you aware that approximately 1000 incidents involving electric shock or burns at work are reported to the Health and Safety Executive each year?

Even non-fatal shocks can cause severe and permanent injury and poor electrical installations and faulty electrical appliances can lead to fires.  Most of these accidents can be avoided by simple electrical testing and inspection of your appliances.

Electrical testing & inspecting comes in three main forms:

Fixed Installation Testing

This is the testing of the circuits contained within the fabric of a building - the socket outlets, lighting circuits and various other circuits.  How often this testing should be undertaken depends very much on the environment and use of the installation; some areas should be tested annually and others perhaps every five years.  Our in-house experts can advise further.

Portable Appliance Testing

A portable appliance is any piece of equipment that can be moved from area to area and reconnected to the supply via a plug and socket system. During everyday use such appliances become worn or damaged which can lead to them becoming unsafe if not properly maintained.  PAT Testing is a documented method of electrical maintenance.

The reasons to undertake PAT Testing include complying with the Electricity at Work Regulations - to minimise the risk of fire and injury caused by electrical appliances, to remove the risk of your insurance company disputing a claim for damage from fire through insufficient maintenance, and to comply with ISO Quality Assurance.
